Under-construction bullet train bridge collapses in Gujarat’s Anand, 1 dead

Gujarat Bullet Train Bridge Collapse: In a tragic incident, a worker was killed and another is feared trapped under debris when an under-construction bridge at the site of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor project of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) collapsed at Rajupura village near Vasad in Gujarat’s Anand district on Tuesday. The bridge, a part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, suddenly crumbled, ANI reported.
The Anand police and fire brigade have rushed to the scene, and rescue operations are in full swing. Rescue teams are trying to save the person trapped under the debris.
Anand district superintendent of police Gaurav Jasani confirmed the incident. “Two workers who have been rescued have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. They are fine. It is believed that two other workers are still trapped. We are carrying out rescue operations,” PTI quoted Jasani as saying.
“Rescue operation is in progress using cranes and excavators. One labourer has been rescued and has been recovering in the hospital,” the National High Speed Rail Corporation stated, according to the ANI report.
“According to the primary information, 3-4 workers were trapped under the debris after the bridge collapsed. The rescue operation started immediately,” Jasani said.
The bridge, a part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, is a 508-kilometre corridor that aims to transform high-speed rail travel in India by connecting two of the country’s largest economic hubs with a top speed of 320 km/h.
Following the completion of the corridor, the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be reduced to about two hours, down from the current six-hour journey by conventional rail.
